LSA / TENORM MONITORING SERVICES

Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (NORM) encountered in oil and gas and mining operations originate in subsurface formations, which may contain radioactive materials such as uranium, thorium, radium 226 and radium 228.   The exploration, development and production activities will enhance NORM which will eventually be brought to the surface.

We offer Low Specific Activity (LSA) / Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (TENORM) Monitoring Services.  It involves the monitoring and surveillance of:-

• External radiation level
• Surface contamination level
• Airborne radionuclide
• Radon / Thoron progeny levels
• Radioactivity analysis of mineral by-products, sludge, scale, soil, liquids and flora/fauna.

RADIATION LEAK TEST SERVICES

This service is designed to identify radiation leaks from nuclear and radiation equipments. The tests are conducted to check for flaws or defects in sealed source enclosures leading to possible surface contamination and/or radiation leaks that can cause radiation exposures to workers. Every company licensed by AELB to have sealed source must conduct leak test on the equipments every year.

ENVIRONMENT MONITORING LABORATORY SERVICES

Asia Lab has a fully equipped laboratory that can provide qualitative and quantitative analysis of radionuclide for all types of samples including sludge/scale, minerals and other geochemical and environmental samples.

The laboratory, accredited by the Atomic Energy Licensing Board is able to provide for gamma spectroscopy using the state of the art High Purity Germanium Coaxial Detector / Counting Systems. In addition, the laboratory has a fully automated low background Gross Alpha and Gross Beta counting system that can analyze up to 50 samples in a day for gross radioactivity values.

MICROBIOLOGICAL SURVEILLANCE

We conduct microbiological surveillance / monitoring and testing which covers the counting and analyzing of microbial contaminants present within the hospital especially so at critical areas such as wards, operation theatres and labour rooms.

 

QUALITY ASSURANCE TESTING OF MEDICAL IRRADIATING APPARATUS

Ministry of Health (MOH) has also granted accreditation to Asia Lab (Class H License (Certification) – KKM/R/0278) to provide services on Radiation Protection & Consultancy (for medical purposes) and Certification Services for Medical X-ray Facilities to the medical institutions in Malaysia.

RADIATION DECONTAMINATION SERVICES

Asia Lab provides decontamination services for an area, facility, or equipments that have been contaminated with radioactive materials. Once the nature of the radiation hazard (i.e. its chemical and physical form and activity of the contaminants) has been identified, a safe working procedure for removal of the contaminants is designed and carried out.

INDUSTRIAL HYGENIC SERVICES

Our occupational hygiene professionals offer a comprehensive range of consulting services in occupational and environmental health and safety. Services offered include chemical exposure (mercury, BTEX, benzene, paraquat etc.), occupational air monitoring, noise exposure evaluation, indoor air quality assessment, workplace risk assessment and worker training.

SUPPLY OF NUCLEAR INSTRUMENTATION & SCIENTIFIC EQUIPMENT

Asia Lab has entered into an agreement with Gammasonics Group, Australia (composed of Gammasonics Institute for Medical Research Pty Ltd and Gammasonics Radiological Services Pty Ltd.) as trade and radiation technology partner covering the South East Asian region.

In Australia, Gammasonics has been a pioneer since 1977 in the design and manufacture of Radiation detection equipment for Diagnostic, Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, Industrial Radiation & National and Home Land Security.
 
Gammasonics Radiological Services Pty Ltd is recognized worldwide for radiation protection consultancy, shielding design and dose calculations for radiology and nuclear medicine facilities. In addition to that, they have set up and commissioned in excess of 250 Nuclear Medicine facilities around the world. 
 
Through Gammasonics and our other principles, we supply the following equipments to public and private sectors:-

• Nuclear medicine equipment

RADIATION PROTECTION OUTSOURCING

All companies that own equipments with radiation source and X-ray machines must have a Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) who is required to carry out a number of procedures and prepare reports to the licensing body as part of the compliance process. Companies that are unable to employ their own RPO are allowed by AELB to engage a company like Asia Lab to assume the RPO responsibilities.

COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT OUTSOURCING

This service offering is designed to help companies remove the “headache” of managing compliance with regulations that require timely annual quality control inspections that must be performed for all radiation related equipments. This service covers the following:

• Management system that tracks the history of QC inspections for each equipment
• Scheduling QC inspections
• Conduct QC inspections
• Provide QC certifications
• Service and repair equipments that failed QC test
• Provide overall management and regulatory reporting on all radiation equipments for the   company

RADIATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM (REAP)

This program encompasses field and analytical studies of environmental samples such as soil, water, air, flora, fauna and sediment samples. It also involves determination of Radon and Thoron progeny levels. The purpose of the program is to assess the potential negative radiation impact on the environment, workers and members of the public from the activities that are carried out by companies and industries involved in the processing of radioactive contaminated materials.
The program usually identifies and monitors the release of radionuclide into the environment by conducting field surveillance and analyzing environmental samples. At a pre-operational stage, the surveillance involves determination of background activities in various environmental media. At the operational stage, the collected data is compared with the baseline data to establish the level of exposure.
